German[edit]

Etymology[edit]

drauf +‎ stehen

Verb[edit]

draufstehen (irregular strong, third-person singular present steht drauf, past tense stand drauf, past participle draufgestanden, past subjunctive stände drauf or stünde drauf, auxiliary haben or sein)

  1. (colloquial) to stand on
  2. (colloquial) to be written on
  3. (colloquial) to like it, to love it
Du stehst drauf, wenn ich dir die Schultern massiere.
You like it when I massage your shoulders.

Usage notes[edit]

Only the auxiliary haben is used in northern and central Germany. In southern Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, sein is common in the vernacular and also, alternatively, in standard usage.
