esraj (plural esrajes)

1. A bowed string instrument of Indian origin, with a goatskin soundboard, sympathetic strings attached to a sitar-like neck, and twenty frets.

     Sri Chinmoy is director of the United Nations meditation group. He is an author and a musician as well. Tonight at 7:30, he will work as a musician along with three or four choral groups and a number of instrumental units—he plays cello and esraj (a type of sitar) himself.
