for- +‎ legge; from Middle Low German vorlegen, vorleggen. Compare with the German verb verlegen (misplace).

  1. to misplace, mislay (putting something somewhere, then forgetting its location)
  2. to deploy; station; relocate

    The troops were stationed in the city.
  3. to make all arrangements for the publication of a book etc.
  4. to make a correcting adjustment
    forlegge siktepunkt
