Romanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Probably from Ancient Greek φρίκη (phríkē) or more likely Byzantine Greek φρίκη, but the presence of the word in Istro-Romanian indicates it was a very old borrowing. Compare Aromanian fricã, also Albanian frikë.
