Etymology[edit]

Zero−grade form of Proto-Albanian *(s)pṛkeH2, from Proto-Indo-European *per- (to attempt, try, research, risk). Close to Latin perīculum (danger, risk, trial), Ancient Greek πεῖρα (peîra, trial, attemt), Old English fǣr. Assumption of a loan from Byzantine Greek φρίκη (phríkē) seems not plausible, because velar followed by front vowel would be palatalized.

Pronunciation[edit]

Noun[edit]

frikë f (indefinite plural frika, definite singular frika, definite plural frikat)

  1. fear (fright)
  2. anxiety
  3. fear (doubt, worry, uncertainty)
