Spanish[edit]

Pronunciation[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Variant of buey (which see for more), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *gʷṓws; this form thus represents a de-shifting of /b/ back to /gw/. Compare güeno, agüelo, güelvo, where /bwe/ becomes /gwe/. This mutation is considered nonstandard for Spanish.

Noun[edit]

güey m (plural güeyes, feminine güeya)

  1. (Mexico, colloquial slang) chump, punk, dumbass, idiot, jerk
  2. (colloquial) dude, guy, buddy
