Etymology[edit]

From French gastronomie, from Ancient Greek γαστρονομία (gastronómia), from γαστήρ (gastér, stomach) and νόμος (nómos, knowledge, law). Surface analysis is gastro- (cooking) +‎ -nomy (a system of rules or laws about a particular field).
