Etymology[edit]

From Old Albanian gjuonj, from dialectal Tosk gjonj, from Proto-Albanian *jāgnja, denominative of *jaga ‘hunt’. More at gjah. Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *śāgn-, from Proto-Indo-European *seh₂G- 'to trace (out), track'. Cognate to Latin sagio (acute sentire, to feel). Phonetically, *seh₂G-mi is also possible.[1]
