Noun[edit]

hamster style (uncountable)

  1. A method used by turntablists whereby the configuration of the crossfader is reversed, so that the right turntable is on the left end of the crossfader and vice versa.
    • 2007, Mickey Hess, Icons of hip hop: an encyclopedia of the movement, music, and culture, ABC-CLIO, →ISBN, page 35:
In the standard DJ style, when the fader is on the right, the right turntable is the only one producing sound, and vice versa (the other option is hamster style, which is the opposite—when the fader slides to one side, that turntable's sound cuts out).
