  1. (ditransitive) to hold out to/for (with the hand etc.)

    He held the money out for her, but she didn’t take it.
  2. to stall (employ delaying tactics against)
    Versuch du, sie irgendwie hinzuhalten, während ich versuche, durch die Hintertür zu fliehen.
