Finnish[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Swedish hora, allegedly evolved from the same root as Icelandic hórr 'lover' and Irish Gaelic cara meaning friend or partner.

Noun[edit]

huora

  1. (pejorative) A whore.

Usage notes[edit]

  • More obscene if used meaning a female person who has lots of sexual activity with other people, regardless of their gender, but doesn't bill for her service. Even more obscene if one calls a female person huora when she doesn't do anything abovementioned.
  • More and more obscene if you use it about any male person (as good as, or even worse than calling them hintti).
  • Sometimes used more or less humorously to refer to a person who can be bought to do anything.
