Dutch[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Likely an extended form of the exclamation hup; compare hop, hoppa, hoppakee and the like. This etymology is incomplete. You can help Wiktionary by elaborating on the origins of this term.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • (file)

Interjection[edit]

hupsakee

  1. hey presto, ta-da (when the result of one's work becomes apparent)

Usage notes[edit]

  • Like hoplakee and hoppakee, the exlamation is sometimes lengthened to hupsakeeje after counting to two in completion of a (joint) physical effort:
    Een-e, twee-je - hupsakeeje!One... two... - there we go!
