From hypocritic + -al, from ὑποκριτικός (hupokritikos), from ὑποκριτής (hupokritēs, “actor, hypocrite”), from ὑποκρίνομαι (hupokrinomai, “I play a part on stage”), from ὑπό (hupo, “below”) + κρίνω (krinō, “I choose”).
