From Ancient Greek ΙΧΘΥΣ (ikhthus, fish), which served as an acronym for ησοῦς (Iēsous, Jesus) Χριστός (Khristos, Christ) Θεοῦ (Theou, of God) Υἱός (Huios, son) Σωτήρ (Sōtēr, saviour).
