Borrowing from a Semitic language. Compare Biblical Hebrew אַבִּיר (ʾabbī́r, mighty, valiant) (often used of stallions), or perhaps Ugaritic 𐎛𐎁𐎗 (ỉbr, bull) (= Arabic بَعِير (baʕīr)).
