Etymology[edit]

From këputë 'sole'[1]. Other proposals include: 1) Camarda, from Greek παπούτσι (papoútsi). 2) Meyer, from Turkish papuç (paputsh) pabuç (pabutsh), from Ottoman Turkish پاپوش (papush), from Persian پاپوش (papush), although these are less probable as they are reflected already in Albanian papuçë.
