Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Finnic *kehä, from Proto-Finno-Ugric *keččä. Cognates include Northern Sami giessat (“to wrap”), Erzya чи (či) and Moksha ши (ši, “sun, day”), Eastern Mari кече (keče, “sun, day”), Udmurt киш (kiš, “snare”), Komi-Zyrian киш (kiš, “ring, halo”), Eastern Khanty кӫтш (kø̈tš), Northern Mansi кис (kis, “hoop”).
