Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish قورقمق (korkmak, to be afraid), itself from Proto-Turkic *kork-. Cognate with Azerbaijani qorxmaq, Crimean Tatar qorqmaq, Kazakh қорқу (qorqu), Kyrgyz коркуу (korkuu), Uzbek qoʻrqmoq, Chuvash хӑра (hăra).
