Albanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Possibly a devoiced variant of gungë +‎ -ull, from Proto-Indo-European *geng-, *gong- (lump). Close to Lithuanian gungulỹs (ball), Old Norse kǫngull (bundle of berries), Ancient Greek γογγύλος (gongúlos, round), Latin conucla (staff for holding flax, wool, etc.). Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *kunkula, similar to Lithuanian kunkulas (bubble).
