  1. The term used for an official regional government unit between the state and the municipalities in Finland. It is usually translated as province into English.
  2. A translation for a similar administrative unit in another country, especially Sweden (län), Norway (fylke) or Russia (oblast).
  3. (colloquial) A land area or a house in private ownership, especially if it is large.
