Sino-Vietnamese word from 祿.

Etymology 2[edit]

Sino-Vietnamese word from 鹿 (deer). Its usage in Vietnamese most likely started as a short form of 鹿茸 (lộc nhung, velvet antler), then shifted to "bud".

Not related to the etymology above. Nevertheless, due to homophony with etymology 1, it gained cultural significance as a symbol for prosperity.
