legislative body (plural legislative bodies)

1. A political institution which holds the legislative power in a state, and often controls the executive power.

   Under unicameral constitutions the legislative bodies are single assemblies, in the bicameral Westminster model the legislative body is a parliament comprising two houses or chambers

2. Its equivalent, exercising legislative power at a sub-state administrative level.
