From Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *lindur, from Proto-Austronesian *linuʀ. Compare Aklanon linog, Bikol Central linog, Cebuano linog, Hiligaynon linog, Indonesian lindu, Javanese ꦭꦶꦤ꧀ꦝꦸ (lindhu), Tausug linug, and Yakan linug.
