Uncertain. Possibly from Vulgar Latin *liseus or *lisius, perhaps from Ancient Greek λισσός (lissós, smooth). Compare Italian liscio, Portuguese and Spanish liso, Catalan llis, Sicilian lisciu, Friulian lis, Romansch glisch.
