Etymology[edit]

From Ottoman Turkish ملتجی (mülteci), from Arabic مُلْتَجِئ (multajiʔ), active participle of اِلْتَجَأَ (iltajaʔa). Despite the apparent suffix -ci, the entire word is from Arabic.
