Etymology[edit]
From mant (“gap in teeth; gap in cutting edge; bite, indentation; toothless gums, jaw”) + -ach, ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *men- (“to stand out”), similar to Proto-Germanic *munþaz (“mouth”), Latin mentum (“chin”).[1]
