English[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Apparently a neologistic pseudo-archaicism, designed to resemble methinks. Compare meseems (which is genuinely old).

Particle[edit]

mehopes

  1. (nonstandard) I hope.
    • 1860?, in Godey's Magazine, volumes 60-61, page 424:
"Gentle maiden, though a captive, mehopes thou hast not found this confinement irksome, [] "

Usage notes[edit]

This term is a pseudo-archaicism; that is, it resembles methinks, but lacks the long history that term has.
