minor sixth (plural minor sixths)

  1. (music) A musical interval in Western music that approximates a frequency ratio of 8:5. It is one chromatic semitone narrower than a major sixth. In twelve-tone equal temperament, it consists of eight semitones and spanning six degrees of the diatonic scale, and is enharmonically equivalent to an augmented fifth.
