mood message (plural mood messages)

  1. A common instant messaging software feature which allows a user to display a message to all users who have that user on their contact list. Usually used to display the user's status or location, but also commonly used to display other information such as quotations, links, and the title of songs the user is listening to.
    He had his mood message set to "At work," so I didn't disturb him.
