From Old Norse morgunn, morginn, from Proto-Germanic *murginaz, from Proto-Indo-European *merkʷ-, *merǝkʷ-. Cognate with Faroese morgun, Icelandic morgunn, Swedish morgon and Danish morgen. Akin to English morning.

Usage notes[edit]

Around 10-12 a.m. is usually called förmiddag (“forenoon”) instead. Morning can be considered shorter in Swedish compared to English.
