Possibly borrowed from or cognate to Albanian nepërkë ‘adder, viper’, from fuller nepërtkë, originally ‘hatchling snake’, from Proto-Slavic *nepъrtъkъ (compare Bulgarian [script?] (neprŭtŭk, buttercup)).
