Navajo[edit]

Etymology[edit]

ni- (thematic) + -oo- (yi-perfective 3rd person subject prefix) + -d- (classifier)-zǫ́ǫ́z (neuter perfective stem of root -ZǪ́Ǫ́Z, “to pull, to tear”).

Stem initial z- becomes d- under d-effect.

Usage notes[edit]

This is a neuter verb. As such, it has only the perfective stem.
