Latin[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *snew- (to suckle). Cognate with Sanskrit प्रस्नौति (prasnauti, to drip, to release liquids), प्रस्नुत (prasnuta, releasing mother's milk). Appurtenance of Ancient Greek νάω (naō, to flow, to stream) is difficult and requires special pleading (de Vann, 2008).
