    • 17th century, The records of the town of Cambridge Massachusets, § 2, page #102:
      It is ordered by the Townsmen that all ſwine that go at liberty with in the Lim̄itts of this Towne ſhalbe by ye owners thereof : conſtantly & sufficiently ring vpon pœnalty of paying all dam̄ages done by such ſwine, wth 3d a Swine to Such person as shall find such swine dam̄age ſaisant, either to the Com̄on or his owne prticular.
