Etymology[edit]

Literally "piece of theatre." Pièce is derived from Latin pettia, which in turn comes from Proto-Celtic *kʷezdis via Gaulish. Théâtre is derived from theatrum, which in turn comes from Greek θέατρον (théatron, a place for viewing).
