    • 1686, a text quoted in 1848 by John Lauder Fountainhall and David Laing, Historical Notices of Scotish Affairs, pages 696–697:
      The Privy Counſell referred this to the Biſchop of Edinburgh, in regard it was a mortification within his oune Dioces, and the caſe had formerly been before him when he was a Privie Counſeller; and he made a report that their poor ſhould have the præference.
