Etymology[edit]

From Turkish rakı, from Arabic عرقي (ʕáraqi, of liquor), from عرق (ʕáraq, arrack, arak), literally, “condensate,” which refers to an ouzo-like liqueur made of raisins. Compare Albanian raki.
