Etymology[edit]

Either from Arabic raqqàs (waitress at an inn) via Mediterranean Lingua Franca[1] or as the feminised version of the masculine ragazzo (boy; boyfriend) from Vulgar Latin ragazium, probably ultimately from Ancient Greek.
