Etymology[edit]

Compound rot (rotten) +‎ zak (scrotum, bag). Reportedly (WNT, De Vries) a bahuvrihi meaning “a syphilitic”. Syphilis was also known as the French disease, explaining why it became a slur for French and Walloon people.
