Etymology[edit]

From Japanese 旅館 (りょかん ryokan), from Middle Chinese 旅館 (ljó-kwán "inn", "traveller's lodge") (compare Mandarin lǚguǎn 旅馆), from ("travel") + ("lodging-house").
