Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Slavic *rędьnъ (orderly), from *rędъ (row). By surface analysis, rěd +‎ -ny. Cognate with Upper Sorbian rjadny (orderly, beautiful), Polish rządny (economical), Czech řádný (regular).
