Baltic-Finnic cognates of the same meaning are deemed certain and include eg. Karelian seä, Votic sää, Veps sä. Probably inherited from Proto-Finno-Ugric *säŋi (“air”), also reflected in Hungarian ég (“sky”) and Komi сынӧд (synöd, “warm air”).
