Usage notes[edit]
  • Although grammatically not needing any words adjacent, this verb is very often used with adverbs signifying places, such as siellä, 'there', — probably due to the influence of other languages where a subject of an impersonal statement is required. However, if added with no specific meaning, those additional words are not always translated:
(Siellä) sataa.
It is raining.
