Italian[edit]
Pronunciation[edit]
Etymology 1[edit]
Ellipsis of sedia a sdraio. (keeping the feminine gender of sedia), where sdraio is deverbal from sdraiarsi (“to lie down”). The alternative form sdraia undergoes a change in the ending to match the gender. The alternative form's plural sdraie also became the plural of sdraio for some speakers, to solve the ambiguity of invariability.
