Etymology[edit]
short + board. Such a board is short in comparison to a longboard and the boards which preceded the shortboard historically.

- (surfing) A type of surfboard which is about 6 to 7 feet long (boards are always measured in feet, even in metric countries), and with a tapered pointy nose.
