Etymology[edit]

Enlargement with the suffix -dh(ë), from Proto-Albanian *śpar-(δ-), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)per- 'spar, rafter'[1]. Cognate to Old High German sparro (beam, roof-tree). Related to shparr. Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *pardza, from Proto-Indo-European *pérkʷus ‘oak’ (compare Latin quercus, Punjabi pargāī ‘holm oak’).
