Romanian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Uncertain. Probably from Latin solidus ("gold coin") (contracted to soldus) through a Romanian root *soldu and its plural *soldzi. Other theories suggest Slavic slŭzŭ, but this is less likely. Also possibly a creative expression.

Noun[edit]

solz m (plural solzi)

  1. scale, flake
