Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Afrikaans sosatie, from Dutch sesaté or directly from Malay sate (“spiced meat on a skewer”), from Tamil சதை (catai). Doublet of satay.

- (South Africa) A kebab. Curried meat on a skewer, cooked over an open flame or on the braai. Usually not made of pork.
