Italian[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From the variant spène, to all appearances inherited from Latin spem. The now-predominant variant with /m/ does show a Latinizing influence.
Pronunciation[edit]
Noun[edit]
speme f (plural spemi)
- (poetic) hope
- Synonym: speranza
- 1900, “Ballata per Sante Caserio”, Pietro Gori (lyrics), performed by Sandra Mantovani:
