From Old Irish táes, from Proto-Celtic *taysto- (dough), from Proto-Indo-European *teh₂is-t- (dough) (compare Old Church Slavonic тѣсто (těsto, dough) and, with a different suffix, Old High German theismo (dough)).[1]
